The avalanche of Star Trek: Discovery publicity continues today with a pair of new videos featuring interviews with the executive production team, a great deal of behind-the-scenes footage, and brand new episodic content from the upcoming season of Discovery.

From the sets of the Shenzhou to Michael Burnham’s first encounter with Captain Georgiou, these videos offer a stunning look into the production values of the series – and a look into what’s to come in the first season of Star Trek: Discovery.

  • Your Worst Nightmare

I want to hear nothing more regarding Burnham not smiling. Thank you.

    • Quintillion Tesla

Is that guy really rehashing THAT comment of his? It wasn’t funny the FIRST three times he used it.

      • Your Worst Nightmare

        I was being preemptive. 😉

    • Odd isn’t it, that there are actual explanations for things in the show? The negative comments tend to assume the worst, and I don’t really understand why. It’s not like CBS hired a bunch of morons to head their flagship franchise. They actually want the show to succeed, believe it or not.

It does feel like we’re going to jump around in time a bit (not time-travel, just flashbacks or something similar). We see a very young Burnham on Vulcan, we see Burnham coming aboard with Sarek, we see Georgiou saying Burnham’s served with her for 7 years, Burnham boarding Discovery for (probably) the first time years later (assumption), etc.

      This will be interesting.

      • Your Worst Nightmare

She also smiled and laughed in one of the videos. 😉

But also, I agree wholeheartedly with everything you suggest here.

“It’s not like CBS hired a bunch of morons to head their flagship
franchise. They actually want the show to succeed, believe it or not.”

Yep, the production value looks top-notch. We can’t tell how good or bad the storyline will be, but I really can’t see it being any worse that what we’ve seen across seven seasons of Voyager, three seasons of ENT etc.

Even if it’s ONLY as good as the weakest TREK, but with higher production values and hopefully engaging performances, that will still make it worthwhile ( though I am really hoping it WILL be better than a number of the past Treks.

“It’s not like CBS hired a bunch of morons to head their flagship franchise.”

Well nobody from the original production team is on board, not even the effects guys. That IS a reason for being nervous for some of us.

  • I want to never see “This video is not available” like… ever again. It is the most infuriating experience with Youtube. They show you a picture, they whet your appetite. I get excited, I take the time to find my headphones, take them out of the case, unravel the cord, plug them into the computer, put them in my ears. Then I press the play button and … BOOM. Giant FU appears in front of your face. Content not available. Sorry for wasting your time and getting your hopes up.

Here’s the other vid of Burnham, but unlocked for those outside the USA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vGFtZfPIlU

If anyone does a bit of sleuthing you will find it on youtube. Both youtube channels Nación Trek and Star Trek Argentina combined have all the videos, trailers, and TV spots.

Sounds like the premiere just got out in L.A. Of course, take it how you will, but the initial Twitter reactions seem positive.

  • Tom Cruise Never Phones It IN

Wow, I saw this coming from day 1 but something called the Independent has said she is the first black lead in Star Trek.

Yikes at the blatantly false claim

    • TUP

Blatantly false or an error? Are you implying there is a malicious intent?

      • mr joyce

Another blatantly false claim, with malicious intent by the op, to push an agenda .. What they actually said was this ; first black FEMALE lead..i posted a link to my source too..

      • Pedro Ferreira

The Independent is a notoriously left wing newspaper. Some weeks ago they actually defended that idiot Munroe Bergdorf for her racist generalised comments towards white people. That is who they are so yes.

    • mr joyce

No, not a blatantly false claim, here’s what they actually said; First black FEMALE lead. Get your facts right

      Edit…Here’s the link too.. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/star-trek-discovery-sonequa-martin-green-netflix-captain-michael-burnham-the-walking-dead-michelle-a7954196.html

    • Andy Walmacher

Sadly STD is fake trek. I promise you will have enjoyed season 4 of STE more than you will STD

      • GIBBS v2

        Shoo fly don’t bother me.
        .

  • Andy Walmacher

Please fail. The show does not “feel” like Star Trek at all. That’s what people are saying privately at the TrekBBS.

    • Tom Cruise Never Phones It IN

Shame that it has to be said privately

      • Andy Walmacher

Yes, it is. The hardcore longtime true real fans of Star Trek are being suppressed by hordes of newcomers. So we talk in private and are greatly concerned at what we have seen.

We hope we are wrong, but many of us watched the TOS when it first aired in the 60’s and have watched every episode broadcast since then when it first aired. We have extensive experience on our side and red flags have gone up for over a year on this Star Trek attempt.

      • Pedro Ferreira

Are you saying you’re not allowed to not like a Star Trek show?

    • mr joyce

It’s only being said privately because these naysayers who wish failure on the show, who are a vocal minority, get scared when their views are challenged.

      • Pedro Ferreira

Our views are validated that’s the problem!
