Film and television prop design company Walter Klassen FX has been doing a lot of work for Star Trek: Discovery, from Klingon weaponry to Starfleet gear, and recently WKFX has been sharing some wonderful photography of their constructions on social media.

Also sharing imagery of these props is WKFX lead painter, Meaghan Lynch.

Also shared is a look at a Vulcan staff held by the Vulcan Expeditionary Group leader seen in “Lethe” a few weeks back, with highly-detailed metallic paint.

Here’s a great look at the virtual reality helmet worn by the USS Shenzhou‘s Lt. Jira Narwani — the character name taken from David Mack’s Desperate Hours novel — seen in “The Vulcan Hello” and taking a hit from an explosion in “Battle of the Binary Stars.”

Finally, last week’s “Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad” featured Harry Mudd boarding the USS Discovery wearing an Andorian space helment, and WKFX this week shared some breathtaking photography of this prop, and Lynch featured some in-progress paint work of the helmet’s creation.

  • Nice look at the helmet, those horns are still in the wrong place unless,we see a redesigned Andorin. Damned nice work though.

    • ECHenry

I think it’s a safe assumption that Andorians will be at least somewhat redesigned.

  • A_Warrior_of_Marley

Great work that stands up to hard scrutiny. Also, I noticed that the Vulcan staff kind of bears a resemblance to the Lirpa weapon. Very nice touch if that was intentional!

  • FightingMongooses

Those Klingon weapons are very impractical.

    • Quintillion Tesla

      Not for a Klingon.

      • FightingMongooses

Tell that to the Torchbearer whom was killed by his own moronic weapon.

Bat’leths are impractical in any case, but the Discovery Bat’leths and Mek’leths are horrible. At least the D’k tagh and the Klingon energy weapons look good…

The Andorian Helmet looks like it should be on Amazon’s The Tick reboot, it looks a bit too cartoony for Discovery. The big bug eyes and weird light up chest piece make me think it could be for a new Tick character “Firefly” or something similar.

I can’t argue with the craftsmanship though, they know their metalwork at WKFX.

I thought they were channeling something from classic Trek because of how it had such a retro vibe.

      • SpaceCadet

I agree with you and Jamie Thomas – it’s got a classic Trek vibe but also reminds me of something from a comic book. And it’s very striking and cool, I think my favorite prop from the series so far.

    • I agree its too cartoony and the horns are in the wrong spot.

  • Jack Nelson

    The props are cool.
