Today at their Las Vegas convention panel, Star Trek comic publisher IDW Publishing announced the next chapter in their ongoing Trek tales — one sure to please fans of the illustrated adventures of the long-running franchise.

After more than a year since the Star Trek: Waypoint cross-series title ended its first six-issue run, an “extra-length” one-shot is headed back to comic readers’ hands this November.

The as-yet-untitled Waypoint release will include three stories from the Trek prime universe, including a Deep Space Nine tale, a chapter from The Next Generation, and a story set to cover “the entire length of Trek history.

The stories will be written by Brandon Easton, Jackson Lanzig and Collin Kelly; Dave Baker and Nicole Goux, and Matthew Dow Smith. Artwork is provided by Goux, Smith, Sonny Liew, and Josh Hood.

IDW also revealed a first look at the just-approved Waypoint cover art, which features late-season DS9 addition Ezri Dax, an illustration of Data and Spot reminiscent from the closing moments of Star Trek: Generations, and Kirk and Spock defending the flag of the Federation.

While the Waypoint revival was the only specific announcement, new Star Trek group editor Denton Tipton did offer a tantalizing hint to a future pre-Next Generation story by flashing a photo of Captain Picard with hair — a behind-the-scenes photo from “Violations” — and making reference to “the past of the future.” (Seems like a Stargazer-era Picard story may be on the way!)
